The Artists’ 3-D Printed Body Parts (5 senses), Pomegranates, Found Bath Tub, Dirt Sourced from different locations in Scotland
As we live in an uncertain world, there is a probability that at some point in our lives, we have felt insignificant, invisible, or unspoken of. There is a deep pain that is attached with being misunderstood, forgotten, and taken advantage of, and a sense of jarring awareness when we are stripped from our personhood or our identity.
On the contrary, Humanism empowers the individual. At the very core of Humanism is compassion for the individual. Perhaps it could be affirming the dignity of each human being even though it is not always practiced. Within these works of art, we see the underlying themes of dehumanization, sexism, sexual assault, and feminism.
The Dirt Still Remains tells the story of a traumatic event where the five senses were taken as the fruit is marked and heavily bruised. Through the process of cleansing they are slowly being returned; however the damage never fully goes away. The ‘five senses’ are 3-D printed using biodegradable materials sourced from the artists’ body, imbedded in the soil of Scotland, along with bruised pomegranates inside a bathtub the artist found.
